10th July, Champex 1466m – Martigny 471m – Hotel Splendide, Champex

After some discussion the three of us decided to enjoy the comforts of a second night at the Hotel Splendide, postponing our tour by one day in hope of the weather improving enough for us to see some mountains before it was time to go home. This gave us the opportunity of visiting a Renoir exhibition and viewing the permanent exhibits of the Fondation Pierre Gianadda in Martigny. These are relicts from a nearby Roman site, an automobile museum and modern sculpture in the surrounding garden. A taxi quickly brought us down but we returned by public transport via Orsieres. It was well worth the journey and compensated us a little for the awful conditions.
