Freitag, 09.Mai, Monte Roja 173m
The morning started with Peter collecting contributions for Adrian (and / or for Janet), as we waited for the bus to arrive. Departure at 9.40, after discussion about a possible stop at the Calatrava Auditorium in Santa Cruz. We took the normal route via Bajamar, passing Tugueste, Candalaria – past banana plantations, the Parque Eolico – until reaching El Médano shortly before 11.
Despite gusting winds and blowing sands, here’s how the afternoon was spent:
• visiting daughter and grandchildren
• touring Calatrava auditorium and Herzog & de Meuron museum in Santa Cruz
• being trapped in the lift
• sleeping
• buying hats and drinking sangria
• eating ice
• ascending Monte Roja in hurricane winds (only 3 made it to the top)
• bathing in the ocean and in the hotel swimming pool
• eating picnic on the beach
At 18.00, 14 hungry hikers gathered in the hotel hall to taxi to Los Abrigos for dinner. Adrian ordered salad, octopus, whitebait, grilled whole fish with gambas and lots of wine and water. The evening closed quietly in the hotel bar. Jean
