22<\/span>nd<\/span>.January, <\/span>El <\/span>Remanso<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

The first excursion was a birding walk starting at 5.30am. We drove back to the edge of the forest and saw a range of birds including <\/span>Little Blue Heron<\/span>, <\/span>White I<\/span>bis, <\/span>Yellow-headed Caracara<\/span>, <\/span>Crested Caracara<\/span>, <\/span>Green Kingfisher<\/span>, <\/span>Bare-throated Tiger-Heron<\/span>, <\/span>Great-tailed Grackle <\/span>and many others although often far away. There <\/span>were<\/span> also <\/span>two<\/span> a<\/span>goutis and both three and two toed sloths to be seen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This lodge <\/span>wa<\/span>s very luxurious lying in the middle of dense jungle on a slope about 150m above the <\/span>Pacific Ocean<\/span>, which I <\/span>could<\/span> see from my large balcony. <\/span>My room was very spacious and some were even larger with their own private mini-pool. <\/span>Unlike <\/span>at <\/span>the previous lodge it <\/span>was<\/span> hot h<\/span>ere all the time even at night. <\/span>Lower down i<\/span>n front of <\/span>my balcony<\/span>was the main swimming<\/span> pool.<\/span> Sometimes wildlife could be seen directly from there. There were <\/span>Black-<\/span>mandibled<\/span> Toucan<\/span>s and even Scarlet Macaws although I was too slow for a photo of these. <\/span>Once when I was<\/span> in the pool <\/span>I was<\/span> inspected at close range by a<\/span>n inquisitive<\/span> coati mundi.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There <\/span>wa<\/span>s quite a range of trails to follow and of course one <\/span>could<\/span> walk down to the beach in about 20min. <\/span>This <\/span>was<\/span> quite fantastic, <\/span>a <\/span>golden sand <\/span>beach <\/span>backed by high jungle and palm trees, <\/span>with <\/span>no sign of a building anywhere. In the afternoon I walked down to and along the beach. It is ver<\/span>y beautiful with a few small creeks or lagoons and at the far end a series of flat rocks. However it was not safe to swim<\/span>in the sea itself <\/span>because of the <\/span>strong <\/span>currents.<\/span> Back at the lodge the sun was just setting over the water.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
