Red-lored Parrot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

2<\/span>6<\/span>th<\/span>.January, <\/span>Birding excursion <\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

I set out for another b<\/span>irding excursion early <\/span>on my last full day at El <\/span>Remanso<\/span>. This time I did get a shot of <\/span>Scarlet M<\/span>acaws in flight although it is not very sharp. The <\/span>mostly <\/span>green <\/span>Red-<\/span>lored<\/span> Parrot<\/span>did pose well<\/span> though including one in flight. <\/span>Other birds seen were a pair of <\/span>Orange-chinned Parakeet<\/span>s, a <\/span>Roadside Hawk<\/span>, Gartered Trogon, <\/span>Tropical Kingbird<\/span>, <\/span>Red-breasted Blackbird<\/span>, <\/span>Magnificent <\/span>Frigatebird<\/span>, <\/span>White-crowned Parrot<\/span> and <\/span>Wood Stork<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On the way and better on the way back we saw a tro<\/span>u<\/span>e<\/span> of spider monkeys, <\/span>one of <\/span>the largest monkeys in Costa Rica. <\/span>If they do not like your presence they poo on you from a great height.<\/span> They only missed me by a few centimeters in the open back of the jeep.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After breakfast I took a packed lunch and headed for the beach hoping on the way to finally see some capuchin monkeys<\/span>. In some places such as the Manuel Antonio National Park they are used to people and become quite tame and are easily seen. I had <\/span>no luck but I did twice see a pair of macaws flying over my head along the beach<\/span>. However <\/span>if <\/span>one<\/span> do<\/span>es<\/span> not see them coming from far away there is no chance of getting a photo. There was also a whole flock of pelicans and then later a pair. Only a large black hawk kept still on a low branch <\/span>long enough for a photo of him <\/span>scrutiniz<\/span>ing<\/span> me with his beady eye. The so called rock pools were not <\/span>really <\/span>worth the name which was a pity. They were just flat rocks at low tide with no<\/span> sea<\/span> life.
